Art Exploration
We are all born creative, but if we neglect to develop and strengthen these skills, our creativity becomes inhibited. By assisting and encouraging a child’s creativity, you set the stage for endless opportunities for that child’s imagination. A healthy imagination not only creates a resourceful and productive individual, but it also builds self-esteem, which is an important tool that will be used for the rest of that child’s life. When a child creates a work of art they are not just drawing a picture, they are also creating aspects of self-importance, individuality and engaging in self-expression. We will explore many different fun art activities throughout the year.
This class will be offered for ages 2 to 6. Two Year Olds: This class will provide more of a classroom atmosphere and the children will learn to cooperate with each other and take part in-group activities. They will learn basic artistic elements of line, color, shape, form, and texture. The children with the help of a teacher may begin to look at famous paintings and discuss them critically as well as use them as a “springboard” for their own creative process. Music may also be used as a stimulus in a similar way. Children are encourage to talk about their own artwork and their own feelings. Preschoolers & Kindergartners: The children will draw more from the imagination, and discuss their ideas and feelings. They may work on group art as a class, or in small groups or pairs, but primarily they work individually. A little more time is spent on projects to explore them more fully. During the critical analysis segment, they may study how the masters created their art, and how the art makes us feel, exploring our emotions more. Again, renowned paintings or music will be used to stimulate their own creative process. They will use a few more advanced artistic techniques as needs change and skills develop, adding more technically demanding projects. They will learn more specifics about art basics, and develop an emotional language.
