What Skills
Will I Learn?
Language Development
- To develop connections for speech by allowing children to watch and hear the spoken word through the teacher's interactions, through stories, records and rhymes.
- To develop the ability to understand the spoken language by talking to the children about what they are doing and by telling them what we are doing. Watching what the children are pointing to and repeating to them the name of what they want.
- To develop a sense of literacy thorough the use of picture books, story books and books on tape.
- To develop and understanding of descriptive words such as; body parts, by using a mirror to show them their eyes, nose, mouth and hair.
Intellectual Development
- To develop self-awareness and self control by allowing children to play with things that have parts that move, like radios and zippers. Allow them to make mistakes and clap when they learn how to do something new.
- To develop the ability to take things apart and put them back together through the use of easy puzzles and blocks.
- To develop an attention span by having a variety of activities for the children to play with.
- To develop the ability to mimic sounds by showing the children pictures of animals and by making the sounds that they make and asking the children to do it.
Social Emotional Development
- To develop the feeling of love, trust through consistency of routine, fear and appropriate discipline, praise an recognition for accomplishments and by treating each child with dignity and respect.
- To develop the feeling of safety by showing the children a caring a nurturing environment. Keeping mealtime, playtime and naptime at the same time so that the children will know their daily routine and what they may expect to happen.
- To develop a good self concept by praising the children's efforts and by catching them doing the right thing.
- To develop an understanding for when things do not go their way by offering choices when possible and by making sure that there are enough toys for everyone.
Motor Development
- To develop coordination and control of their arms and legs by giving them many chances to stoop, walk, run and climb.
- To develop good skills for walking forward and backward we will provide many opportunities to dance, walk on a straight path and to push and pull boxes and appropriate toys.
- To develop the ability to kick and throw large balls, play many activities with bean bags and balls to help develop hand eye coordination. We will provide the opportunity to throw balls into a box and to play kick ball games on the playground.
- To develop climbing skills we will provide an assortment of soft climbing equipment in the classroom. On the playground we will use the low jungle jim and other climbing apparatus.
- To develop running skills we will provide outdoor playground time each day and provide adequate space for each child to participate in activities.
- To develop fine motor skills we will provide items daily such: playdough, crayons, finger pain, puzzles with large knob pieces and encourage them to feed themselves.
